Thank goodness I can still get away with designing my daughter’s room. She’s 5 going on about 20!!
I was giddy when I spotted this gorgeous minty green “oops paint” at HD for $7.00!
It’s zero VOC, Self-Priming, Flat Paint (flat paint hides flaws on your walls…aka toning-down-the-orange-peel-texture-on-every-single wall-in-our-house!)
Since she is maturing at an abnormal rate I snatched up the paint, convinced her she would love it and started painting before she threw any kind of tantrum. I’m exaggerating…just a little.
So here is how her room turned out (and by the way, her room is also full of DIY, inexpensive projects just like my son’s room!)
Flower reading lamps: IKEA / 3-D wall butterflies: Etsy / Flokati rug: Costco (I borrowed it from my bedroom)
Reversible bird rug: Joss & Main
These “drapes” are just strips of fabric I ordered from fabric.com. I cut to the size I wanted, “hemmed” with Heat ‘n Bond and I actually did sew the pom pom fringe on and managed to sew a decorative zig zag line (if you can call it a “line:)
I had (and still do have) a ton of fabric left over so I made this pillow cover also created the wall decoration by stapling the fabric to an old painter’s canvas (Michael’s- $3). I then hot glued the “K” (also Michaels- $1.99) onto a white piece of white vinyl then hot glued some gold trim to cover my imperfect cut job. The butterfly camouflages a nice blob of hot glue.
I got these vintage yellow lamp bases from eBay. The oversized lamp shades are from Amazon. I made the star burst mirror from a wood circle I purchased from Hobby Lobby, stick-on mirror from IKEA and bamboo skewers. I then spray painted it gold. The blue metal tray was a Home Goods purchase.
I replaced all the knobs on my girl’s dresser with these gorgeous ones I purchased from this Etsy site.
Desk tray & pencil holder: Poppin / On a side note: if you’re looking for non-toxic, all natural and safe make up for your little girl, I found this awesome kit you can feel ok about giving your little lady too.
Chair: IKEA (this chair is no longer available, but the closest match today would be the Poang rocking chair / Floor lamp: Ballard Designs (I did not find this lamp anymore on their site) / Book shelf: IKEA / Side table: IKEA (the pic on this link isn’t exactly the same as my girl’s, but pretty close & the same price I paid for this one years ago). This is actually a stool that started out with a lime green top and silver legs. I removed the top, spray painted it gloss black & spray painted the legs gold and added a black stripe detail at the bottom.
A treasured heirloom: This silver cup is passed down to the first born girl on my mom’s side. It has every woman’s initials and birth date engraved on it and dates back to 1865. Mine is right above my daughter’s. This was passed onto me from my mom and I have passed it on to my girl. She will then pass it on to her daughter some day (I hope).
This is a $5 door mirror I purchased from Target. I followed this tutorial to add the chunky frame around it then went a bit crazy with the paint job.
I found these wood embellishments at HD then spray painted them aqua and attached with Liquid Nails.
I hope you enjoyed the tour of my girl’s room. It was fun to do and seeing her reaction was worth all the sweat and hours!
